Analysis of The sun used to shine by Edward Thomas
This poem was written in mid-May 1916, following the receipt by Edward Thomas of a letter from his close friend, the American poet, Robert Frost, who had not written to Thomas since the beginning of March. This long silence and Frost’s letter prompted Thomas to recall a holiday which the two families had spent together before the Frosts had returned to America in early 1915.
